Frequently Asked Questions

That would be me, Althea! I started this business six years ago, never imagining it would turn into what it is now. Last year my husband, Jason, began helping me on the side and he now works with me full time. My dream for Riveted has always been to inspire, empower and hopefully employ more women. That is still a big part of this dream, but currently we are operating as a family business which is also an incredible thing.

I offer many different handcrafted items so the answer to that is a very wide range. However I go into that here.

My workshop is located in an old mill in Bristol, RI. It is very much a functional workshop meaning it is in a constant state of sawdust everywhere! I do however have a space to meet with clients who want to see where I build their items, talk about different designs and look at stain and material options. I book these meetings by appointment after an inquiry form is filled out which you can do here.

I did not go to trade school or have an apprenticeship in woodworking. My education is in fashion design. I was exposed to tools at a young age and as my interest grew many things I researched, a lot I learned on my own and some I asked those with more experience to teach me. My favorite line to quote is from the movie Moana “I am self taught”. I’ve tried and failed, and got back up and tried again. I am constantly learned, through others tutorials, experiences but mostly my own. I am not afraid to admit when I do not know how to do something or it is not my expertise but I am usually always willing to give things a try, challenge myself and learn something new! I enroll in building education classes through the year to continue learning and growing as a professional while staying up to date on current trends in the industry.
On that note, I will always consult others in the trades and will refer my clients to professionals in certain areas that I am not qualified for.

We are a very small family business and I’m the main woman behind the curtain and my hands are involved in every step of the process - from selecting materials, creating the plans, cutting, sanding, assembling and more. My husband Jason works on material acquisition and also the building and installation process. We pride ourselves on crafting beautiful pieces for your home or small business. Given the current climate of the world and the issues within the supply chain, our timeline is based on scheduled customers and the availability of supplies and currently is approximately 12-16 weeks from date of deposit.

Our process has been given a lot of time and though and is fully illustrated here!

For invoices that total $1,000 or less, the full amount is due upon invoice receipt. For invoices that total more than $1,000, a deposit of 60% is due upon invoice receipt. The remaining 40% is due 1 week before the installation/delivery date. If purchasing a custom logo sign, the total invoice is due upon receipt. Work is added to the schedule and materials ordered, once the invoice is paid.
Pricing Adjustment
I make every effort to keep my pricing as accurate as possible so that there are no surprise costs. However, there could be additional costs if there are design features that you'd like to add on or if something is discovered during the consultation. Sometimes there are things that I can't see in photos but would see at an in-home consultation, thereby changing the design and the price.
